The Nationales Automuseum held an exclusive panel discussion in memory of the highly talented racing driver Stefan Bellof, who died far too young. Coming from karting, the Giessen native fought his way through Formula Ford and Formula 2 up to the premier class, where Bellof, in his completely inferior Tyrell, almost outclassed World Champion Alain Prost in the rain of Monaco. Bellof’s masterpieces with the Porsche 956 Group C racing car are unforgettable: World Endurance Champion in 1984 and record time on the Nürburgring Nordschleife in 1983. Until 2018, Bellof was the only person to race through the “Green Hell” at an average speed of over 200 km/h. Bellof’s greatest strength was also his greatest weakness: his almost superhuman, playful ease at the limit proved to be his undoing at Spa in Belgium in 1985. In an impossible attempt to overtake on the outside of the Eau Rouge bend, he had a fatal accident. The Nationales Automuseum dedicated an exclusive talk to Stefan Bellof with his brother Goa Bellof, fellow racing drivers Hans-Joachim Stuck, Harald Grohs and Thierry Boutsen, Porsche engineer Norbert Singer and Brun team manager Peter Reinisch.
